Joseph L. Ferriere, Jr. -----------------------------

Joseph L. Ferriere, Jr., 73, of Beacon Ave., Woonsocket, died Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Joseph L. and Helen (Marchand) Ferriere. He was a lifelong resident of Woonsocket and a graduate of Mount St. Charles, Class of 1957. Joe was employed for many years at the Fairmount Dye House. Joe was widely known in the city as the proprietor of Joe’s Moldy Oldies on Rathbun St. Joe also had a career spanning over 40 years on local radio and was a longtime personality on WOON. A man of a great many interests, Joe was an avid collector of books, magazines, records and all types of memorabilia. He had an extensive knowledge of trivia and could easily recall any and all details. Joe was passionate about baseball and in his younger years he played as a pitcher, almost making it to the big leagues. He was also involved in amateur boxing and trained and fought with Al Costa. Joe was a talented musician and was a member of the Deltones, a local band well-known during the 50s and 60s. Joe produced and edited his own magazine dealing with his special expertise on UFOs and Extraterrestrial matters, his parting words known to many listeners – “Watch the Skies”. Joe is survived by his former wife and lifelong friend Laura (Boucher) Henault of Cumberland, and he was the husband of the late Dale (Downey) Ferriere. He is also survived by his daughter Doreen Bosko, and her husband Bruce, of Mapleville, step-son Jack Alger of Cumberland, step-daughters Tara Choinere of Gloucester and April Wroga of Ohio, and the late Kenneth Alger. His granddaughter Heather Voisinet, great grandchildren Sophia, Angel, and Isaiah and several step-grandchildren and step- great-grandchildren. He was the step-brother of James Ciccone, Mary Ellen Mercure, Linda Orlando, and Patsy Ciccone. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 pm in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. A service in Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held at 7:30 pm during visiting hours. Burial will be private. www.menardfuneralhome.com
