Amaryllis Disaster

I put my Amaryllis out by the back door in the Sun, on the railing. I checked on it a few hours later and found it, knocked over and two bite marks on the stem. the flowers were not too badly beat up, I put them in water. One flower the peddle got bent but that flower was on it's way out anyway. This happened one time before, I think it was a squirrel or maybe the neighbor's cat. So I don't put it outside anymore.
